Portable Ethylene Gas Analyzer (CI-900)
The CI-900, C2H4 gas analyzer provides accurate, real-time measurement of ethylene gas concentrations, in a compact package suitable for field and laboratory use. At the core of the instrument is a proprietary nanoporous gold sensor technology that offers extraordinary sensitivity to ethylene, at levels as low as 0.01 ppm in air.
Ethylene, a plant hormone produced in response to stress, ripening or maturity has been a useful agricultural diagnostic indicator for many decades. Traditionally, trace ethylene gas measurements were available only to those users, primarily laboratory researchers, who had access to gas chromatography or similar technologies. The CI-900 has been designed for in vivo studies conducted by field and laboratory researchers as well as post harvest cold storage facility operators who require trace C2H4 gas detection capability.

- How It Works
Continuous sampling from a jar containing a single apple, pear or avocado is possible for measurement of the rate of production of ethylene (breathing rate). It is important to know the ethylene production rate of fruit prior to and during storage. For example, late harvest apples may produce too high of ethylene (e.g. =1 µl kg-1 h-1 in CA conditions) to provide long term storability. CI-900 provides the accuracy and a real time response necessary to provide measurements in a CA room, in the field, or in a laboratory environment.
The analyzer provides extremely linear response at low ethylene concentrations of below 10ppm. This linearity is critical for simple calibration and measurement over a wide range of concentrations.
